Introduction

Additionally to the conference ontology, a bunch of annotated pages from the was added to this wiki. They were included so you can further explore the various functions of SMW+.

Provenance of the chemistry pages

The pages about the chemical elements in this wiki come from Project Halo, an international research project dealing with advanced question answering in scientific domains.

A group of subject matter experts extracted those pages from WikiPedia and annotated them. The knowledge which is now contained in those pages can be used by an external application for question answering.

The collaborative creation of a knowledge base using SMW+ provides a cheap yet efficient alternative compared with the expensive assignment of professional knowledge engineers.

Starting Point and Usage Scenarios

Use the category page on as a starting point. Alternatively, you can also use the Ontology Browser to explore the data. You will find articles about all chemical elements, each of them containing various annotations. This is also a good starting point for experimenting with semantic queries or the Query Interface.

If you want to add, edit or delete annotations, you can use the Annotation Mode of SMW+. This mode allows to easily alter annotations within the rendered view of an article. To enter the Annotation Mode, simply click the "annotate" tab on top of any page.

Finally, you can use the Gardening Framework and its different bots (documentation) to check wiki articles for consistency. There are two ways to see if there are existing consistency issues:

  • Look at the Gardening Log page
  • Look at a query result table (see below). If there are consistency issues for an article, an exclamation mark icon appears. Clicking on it will automatically show a list of existing issues
